Free Stanton Island Ferry
Want to get away from Time's Square? Have you ever visited Battery Park? What about the Statue of Liberty? The Stanton Island Ferry is free. If you're staying in Time's Square, a taxi ride to Battery Park will only cost you less than $15. A good taxi driver deserves a $20 bill to cover the taxi ride and the tip. However, you will make the determination on giving the taxi driver more or less. Our taxi driver told us about the free Stanton Island Ferry.
The Stanton Island Ferry is located right next to Battery Park. You can't miss the building. There is usually a crowd waiting for the ferry ride. The U.S. Coast Guard have rules to keep patrons safe. Make sure you listen to their announcements to ensure your safety. As the ferry approaches from Stanton Island, people will begin to ease forward.
The ferry has a lower, middle, and upper level. Choose the best location that accomodates you. It really depends on the weather. In the spring and the summer, the upper level will provide you with a spetacular view. In the winter, the middle and lower indoor levels will keep you warm.
Always have your camera ready to take pictures of the Manhattan Skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Be extra careful not to drop your camera in the river. The ferry ride will last about 20-25 minutes.
Once you reach Stanton Island, there are several eateries inside the terminal. You can have a nice lunch there, or hold on until you go back to Time's Square, or another location in New York City such as Serendipity.
On the ride back to the Battery Park terminal, you can clearly see the Manhattan Skyline. The breeze will softly blow, and the lower bow of the ferry will softly slice through the water. There will be plenty of action to record with a digital camera and or a cellular camera phone. Most cellular phones are equipped with camera, so you can send a picture of the Hudson River to a friend or family member.
When you arrive back to the Battery Park terminal, you will have taken your first Stanton Island Ferry ride for free. Enjoy the rest of your evening in the most exciting place on the planet.
